FRIDAY 2/26/10

IN CLASS:
Today we wrapped up the champion unit. Students were paired at random with another person from class. They then had to create a double-bubble thinking map (think Venn Diagram) to compare and contrast their two champions. Though the task was easy for some (comparing Rosa Parks with Martin Luther King Jr.), others had more of a challenge (Mother Theresa and Michael Jordon, or Dwight D. Eisenhower and Julia Child). All partners, however, were successful. It seems all champions share at least 3 characteristics with each other.

The next task was to take the thinking map and turn it into a well constructed paragraph explaining how the two champions are similar.

Finally, students shared who they had researched, what the person is most famous for, and one fact about their person that is not commonly known. There were many responses of "Oh, I never knew that!" from the class.

Hours 2, 5, 6 received their next vocab packet for lesson 11 today. All classes were reminded that vocab is due Wednesday, March 3rd. Additionally, remember that the favorite poem project is due Monday. The worksheet and instructions can be found on yesterday's blog.

ASSIGNMENT:
  • Favorite Poem Project due Monday--be prepared to present in class
  • Vocab Lesson 11 due Wednesday, March 3rd
